Professor Frans Maruma is a specialist dermatologist with passion in Aesthetic Medicine, Research, and Medical Education. Apart from being the associate professor and Head of the Department of Dermatology at the University of the Free State, Prof Maruma also practices limited aesthetic & medical dermatology in Bloemfontein. He has colossal interest in chronic pigmentation disorders that typically affect the Fitzpatrick skin photo-type IV-VI sub-population.
As an aspirant medical educationalist, Prof Maruma further discharges his duties in lecturing both undergraduate and postgraduate students at the University of the Free State wherein he is also conducting research in various topics. He has trained, supervised, and produced several specialist dermatologists. Prof. Maruma also has a passion and experience in the use of neurotoxins, hyaluronic acid, and other fillers in aesthetic medicine. He serves on various national and international advisory boards and committees and has numerous publications in international journals. In his leisure time, Prof Maruma enjoys spending time with family, travelling, and listening to music.
