In our ongoing drive to improve the clinical patient outcome for our patients, we utilise “Best Care Always!” which assists us in preventing hospital acquired infections. The four care “bundles” are implemented to prevent Central-Line Blood Stream Infections (CLABSI), Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP), Surgical Site Infections (SSI) and Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI).
Each bundle has a set of evidence-based practices that contribute to the prevention of infection, reduce unnecessary antibiotic prescribing, and may limit the development of antibiotic resistance in hospitals. Each bundle is measured in relation to the nursing compliance of these practices.
A central line bloodstream infection (CLABSI) is a confirmed bloodstream infection that either originates from or is related to a central venous catheter.
A lung infection that develops in a patient who is on a ventilator, or 24 hours after coming off the ventilator is known as a VAP.
A Surgical site infection (SSI) occurs near or at the incision site and/or deeper underlying tissue spaces and organs within 30 days of a surgical procedure (or up to 90 days for implanted prosthetics).
A urinary tract infection that is associated with a urinary catheter is known as a CAUTI.
