In its efforts to raise awareness and funds, Pelo Foundation sold homemade fresh boerewors roll to staff and patients at Busamed Modderfontein Private Hospital. The initiative was part of the Mandela Month activities hosted by the foundation in July, but the Boerewors rolls became a hit at Busamed.
Pelo Foundation Project Manager, Ms. Nobuhle Nkosi, says the boerewors roll initiative was a huge success. Busamed staff and patients came out to support the cause and purchased the boerewors rolls and donated the change to the foundation. The proceeds of the initiative will go towards other future marketing initiatives of Pelo Foundation.
“This was an activation to meet and engage with Busamed Modderfontein staff and we are amazed and grateful by the enormous support received.”
She further stated that this initiative aims to raise awareness and funds for children suffering from Congenital Heart Disease (CHD).
“It was a day well spent at Busamed Modderfontein. The staff was welcoming and supported our fundraising effort. This means a lot to us as we will continue to commit to bringing change into the lives of these children,” Nobuhle adds.
“We want to thank Busamed Modderfontein for their commitment to the success of the Boerewors roll initiative. When we sent the proposal to Taryn’s office, she put out all stops and worked tirelessly to make this initiative a success.”
Since its launch two years ago, Busamed Hospital Group has been supporting Pelo Foundation and has made it possible for ten children from the Eastern Cape to have the much-needed surgeries at two of the Busamed hospitals: Busamed Modderfontein, Gauteng and Paardevlei Private Hospital in Somerset West, Cape Town.
Busamed Group Marketing Manager, Taryn Laas said the hospital group is committed to supporting Pelo Foundation in its objective to raise funds and awareness of children with CHD.
“Our Staff loved the Boerewors initiative and were encouraged knowing that their contribution will benefit the life of a child in need of a heart surgery. Pelo Foundation is close to our hearts due to the number of children who require lifesaving heart surgery and are sadly placed on long waiting lists. We will always rally behind the foundation and assist any how we can.”
She further said the Busamed Staff and patients came out in numbers to support the Boerewors roll initiative.
“I was mostly taken by how generous our staff members, doctors, patients, and visitors were in support of the initiative”, said Taryn.
Everyone loved a Boerewors in the middle of winter. One patient said: “This is something that you guys should do regularly because by just buying a boerewors roll, I now know about Pelo Foundation. “Following the success of this initiative, plans are being put in place to roll out this much-loved initiative to other Busamed hospitals.
