This Saturday, 20 January 2024, Busamed Modderfontein Private Hospital will host the Waterfall City Athletics Club (WCAC) for a day packed with health, wellness, and the thrill of athleticism, as we officially launch our partnership. Through our partnership, we aim to become the healthcare sponsor of the Club, which prides itself in promoting healthy lifestyle living.
WCAC is a fast-growing club whose club members participate in most races in the country and some international races. These races include the Comrades Marathon, Two Oceans Marathon, Soweto Marathon, Mandela Marathon and Cape Town Marathon.
WCAC was the 5th biggest club at the 2023 Comrades Marathon, with a few of their elite runners achieving remarkable finishing times. Further to this, the club offers a developmental programme that assists in nurturing the talent of younger athletes. Two of these athletes have received scholarships and are currently in the United States.
The partnership launch will feature the club’s morning training run followed by educational talks by the following medical specialists:
Dr Harry Papagapiou – Orthopaedic Surgeon
Dr Nompumelelo Gogo – Cardiologist
Dr Maki Ramagole – Sports Physician
Following the talks, the athletes will be offered complimentary wellness screenings including blood pressure and blood glucose monitoring as well an ECG test that records the electrical activity of the heart to screen for any potential heart conditions.
After the launch, the partnership will ensure further support for WCAC at this year’s Comrades Marathon with assistance from our Busamed Gateway, Busamed Hillcrest and Busamed Harrismith Private Hospitals and supporting medical professionals.
