Dr Dower is a specialist plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon. After completing his undergraduate training at UCT and specialist training at the University of Limpopo, he went on to complete two international fellowships in microsurgery.
The first at St Thomas’ hospital in London, involving breast reconstruction. The second, an advanced microsurgery fellowship in Taiwan, dealing with all aspects of microsurgical reconstruction but mainly complex head and neck reconstruction and treatment for lymphedema.
This was followed by a 2 week observorship in implant breast reconstruction at the Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Centre in New York.
Dr Dower was an aesthetic fellow at The London Clinic on Harley Street, assisting in rhinoplasty, as well as a wide array of cosmetic surgery procedures. He did an observorship in rhinoplasty at the Marien Hospital in Stuttgart, and has travelled to various centers throughout the USAto observe the techniques used by leading cosmetic surgeons in their fields.
During his specialist training, the Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons of Southern Africa (APRSSA), awarded Dr Dower Best Clinical Paper in 2009 and 2011, as well as Best Publication in 2012.
He has also presented at the European Association of Plastic Surgeons (EURAPS) Annual Meeting in 2014, on breast reconstruction.
