Postgraduate medical education: Clinical Fellowship in Paediatric Cardiovascular Surgery from July 2012 to June 2013 at the University of Alberta, Canada.
After qualifying as a cardio-thoracic surgeon, he worked as a junior consultant in the department of cardio-thoracic surgery at Tygerberg hospital, for the duration of 2010. In the beginning of 2011, he was appointed as senior specialist in the department of cardio-thoracic surgery at the Port Elizabeth provincial hospital. In July 2012 he left for Canada to complete a one year clinical fellowship in paediatric cardiovascular surgery at the Stollery Children’s hospital in Edmonton. Upon his return to Port Elizabeth in July 2013, he was appointed as head of department of cardio-thoracic surgery. Since then he has been working to expand the department’s services to include regular congenital cardiac surgery. As a specialist in the public sector he had the privilege to manage a wide spectrum of cardiothoracic surgical pathology.
