Dr Ferdi Marais was born and grew up in Somerset West and attended Somerset West Primary and Hottentots-Holland High school.
He attended the University of Stellenbosch to study medicine where he received his MBChB in 2004 after which he served his internship in Welkom and his community service in Barberton.
He worked in Rob Fereira Hospital in Nelspruit in 2007 as a medical officer in Urology and started specializing in Urology in 2008 at the University of Pretoria.
He is a senior registrar in Urology and won the prize for best research by N Registrar (2012) and at the Bi Annual SAUA Congress (2012) he won the prize for the best Talk by N Registrar. He obtained the degrees MMed (Urol) and FC Urol (SA) in March 2013.
Soon after finishing he started in a private practice at the Life Little Company of Mary Hospital, Pretoria Urology Hospital and Midstream Medi-clinic. He also is a sessional consultant at the Urology department of the University of Pretoria.
His special interest is stone disease, uro-gynaecology and male/female incontinence.
He is married to Philene, a dentist, who grew up in Gordonsbay. In his free time he likes to play golf and spend time in nature.
