My favourite quote in the world is that by Eleanor Roosevelt, the former USA first lady, that states that “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams”. That’s my mantra.
I was born in a small town called Klerksdorp in the North-West province. Where I attended school and completed my matric. I then moved to Pretoria where I completed my undergraduate medical degree (MBChB) from the University of Pretoria in 2006. I worked as an intern at both Jubilee District and Dr George Mukhari Hospital in the north of Pretoria. I did my community service in internal medicine and paediatrics in 2008 at the same institution. After community service year I decided to study Occupational Medicine which I passed with flying colours from University of Pretoria. I never practiced because I realised my true passion is children, child health and activism. That’s when I applied for a Masters degree in Paediatrics and Child health from Sefako Makgato University. I trained as a paediatric registrar for 4 years where I obtained my Masters in Paediatrics and Child Health, a diploma in child health (CMSA), and my fellowship in Paediatrics also with CMSA in 2018. I then went on to work in private practice at Busamed Harrismith Private hospital as a specialist paediatrician from 2018-2021. I then went on to do my fellowship in Paediatric Oncology at Red Cross Childrens hospital and an Mphil with the University of Cape Town. My research was mainly to determine the outcomes of children with Wilms tumour at Red Cross Childrens hospital from 2007 to 2017. My area of spacialisation is paediatric haematology/oncology. I am also the founder of Dr M Mathibe foundation, an NPO that focuses on assisting children with rare diseases with access to treatment (both medical and surgical).
I’m an avid tennis fan, and player. I’m engaged to be married and I’m a pet lover. My little pet Snowy is a cross breed of a Welsh Corgi and Yorkshire terrier. I love travelling and getting involved in community projects.
