Dr Avikar Singh completed training as a Urologist at Greys Hospital, Pietermaritzburg in 2019, obtaining his fellowship and Masters Degree in Urology in 2019 from the University of KwaZulu Natal. Prior to this, Dr Singh completed his MBChB at the University of Cape Town in 2011.
His initial research publications included a retrospective review of nephrectomies, published in the South African Journal of Surgery. He was awarded the Van Blerk Award at the South African Urological Association (SAUA) Biennial Congress in 2016 for this research on Kidney Surgery. Other post-graduate research interests and publications include the topics of minimally invasive surgery, Penile cancer and adrenal tumours, among others.
Dr Singh previously served as a Consultant Urologist at Saint Aidans Hospital servicing the majority of KwaZulu-Natal’s urology requirements in the state sector. He now consults as a private Urologist after serving in the public sector for over 10 years, the majority of which has been in Urology.
In recent years, he has expanded his expertise with international training, including a fellowship in minimal access surgery in Dubai and a diploma in urological laparoscopy from Strasbourg, France. In 2025, Dr. Singh completed advanced robotic surgery training in France and received formal certification on the Da Vinci robotic surgical system in South Africa, equipping him with advanced capabilities in robotic-assisted procedures. He offers robotic assisted nerve sparing radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer. His interests include general urology, endourology, andrology, urooncology and paediatric urology. Dr Singh is involved in specialist training, examinations and research. He remains up to date, constantly striving to bring his patients the best possible evidence-based care.
