She holds the Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery (MBCHB), Fellowship of the College of Surgeons’ certificate FCS (SA) and Masters in Surgery (MMED). In 2015, she joined the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital (CMJAH) Surgical Breast Unit for further training in Breast Surgery. In 2020, she was appointed the Clinical Head of Breast Surgery Unit at CMJAH until June 2022 when she was appointed the Academic Head of Department of General Surgery at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

She obtained her PhD in Surgery through the University of Witwatersrand, investigating the PAM50 Intrinsic subtypes in HIV positive & HIV negative patients with Breast Cancer. She has co-published several manuscripts focusing on breast cancer & HIV, the spectrum of male breast diseases etc and has been invited by local & international journals to review several manuscripts around various breast pathologies, prior to their publication. She has also won several research prizes including the Sceales Antrobus Research prize in 2021 for the Best Breast Cancer Research at the 48th Surgical Research Society of Southern Africa Research Conference.

She is very passionate about breast healthcare education as well as raising awareness about breast cancer in the community and has done several radio and tv interviews on breast cancer awareness. She also passionate about sharing knowledge around the latest trends and controversies in various breast pathologies, esp. Breast cancer & HIV, with colleagues and has spoken in local and international conferences, as well as clinical care media platforms. Her passion in promoting ‘Be Breast-Wise. Early detection. Timeous treatment. Best Outcome’ has led to her successfully leading the establishment of Regional Surgical Breast Units in Gauteng & KwaZulu-Natal, as a way of decentralizing and taking the breast healthcare services closer to ‘remote’ communities.

She is a member of the Breast Interest Group of Southern Africa (BIGOSA), African Organisation Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC), Association of Surgeons, South Africa and the PanAfrican Cancer Research Institute (PACRI).

She will be focusing on clinical breast assessment, breast cancer risk assessment, diagnosis & treatment of benign & malignant (breast cancer, sarcoma) diseases as well as the infective and inflammatory disorders of the breasts affecting both men & women.
