Dr Halalisani Zulu is our General Surgeon, practicing at Busamed Harrismith Private Hospital. Dr Zulu was born in the town of Empangeni and completed his secondary education at Old Mill High School (1996 – 2000).
In 2006 he completed his Undergrade at the University of Limpopo (Medunsa). He then began his internship with Madadeni Complex Hospital in Newcastle from 2007 – 2008 and completed his community service with Vryheid Provincial Hospital in 2009. He became a Surgical Medical Officer in 2010 at Northdale Hospital. Between 2011 and 2014 he completed his Fellowship of the College of Surgeons of South and did his training at Durban Metropolitan Hospital Complex. He completed his MMED (Surg) with the Nelson R Mandela School of Medicine and become the Surgerical Medical Officer at King Edward Hospital in 2015.
During his years of training and qualifying he had the pleasure of lecturing the 4th year MBchB undergraduate students and provided tutorials for the 6-year MBchB undergraduates at the University of Kwazulu Natal. He was also a Basic Surgical Skills Course Assistant during his time there.
Dr Zulu is part of the Comparison of Lichtenstein inguinal hernia repair with tension-free Desarda technique: Clinical Audit and Review of the Literature Publication with Suman Mewa Kinoo and Bhugwan Singh. He also accepted and is awaiting publication for Tropical Doctor which is a forum for sharing experiences and establishing best practice, aiding communication between medical professionals in different environments.
Besides his medical interests, he is a sport fanatic and especially enjoys soccer. Other interests include traveling and discovering new places.
He continues his medical journey as a Resident General Surgeon at Busamed Harrismith Private Hospital.
